Invariable French tradition of amorality New episodes

19 June 2024 11:40

They will never change their position. Azerbaijan needs to accept this as a given and increase its economic, foreign policy, and military power. Because France proves again and again that it does not want peace, but a new war between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Want another confirmation of this statement? Easily.

Yerevan and Paris have signed a contract for the supply of French CAESAR self-propelled howitzers, announced French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu on social media X. "We continue to strengthen our defense relations with Armenia. I had a warm and productive conversation with my colleague Suren Papikyan. A new important milestone - signing the contract for the acquisition of CAESAR cannons," noted Lecornu.

In addition, during his working visit to France, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan on June 18 continued familiarizing himself with the pavilions of the international exhibition EUROSATORY, as reported by the Armenian Ministry of Defense press service. According to the announcement, Papikyan held meetings with representatives of several defense industry companies. Agreements were reached and contracts were signed. But that was not all.

Several politicians and public figures from France have signed an open letter to President Emmanuel Macron urging him to deploy a "peacekeeping" contingent to Armenia. This was reported by Le Point. Among the signatories are Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, former French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, and other notable personalities. The authors of the letter emphasize the importance of ensuring Armenia's security and preserving its sovereignty. They expressed gratitude to the president for initiatives supporting Armenia in "defensive" programs, including arms deliveries and training programs for Armenian military personnel.

The letter is full of brazen and hypocritical falsehoods. It asserts that "Azerbaijan, relying on military advantage due to oil and gas revenues and Türkiye's support, is inclined toward military escalation, especially after the 'successful ethnic cleansing in Karabakh'." This single statement reveals the provocative and deceitful nature of the intentions behind the signatories of this piece of paper.

Undoubtedly, Azerbaijan profits from the extraction and transportation of its oil and gas. This is our sovereign right; we do not steal or rob. However, those ladies and gentlemen who signed this letter should remember how many inhabitants of African countries were destroyed during France's colonization. Paris enriched itself through the oppression of other countries and peoples. Therefore, it would be better for them to refrain from commenting on Azerbaijan's revenues.

As for Türkiye, it is a fraternal country for Azerbaijan. We share common roots and practically the same language. It is inappropriate for the signatories of the appeal to Macron to mention Türkiye in this context. Yes, it has always been close to Azerbaijan, morally supporting it even in 2020 during the Patriotic War. But it is important to emphasize that Türkiye supports not only a fraternal country but also a country on the side of international law.

What connects Armenia and France? They are located far from each other, do not share borders, have no common history, and do not have a unified or similar language. Armenia's aspiration to find support as a member of the Francophonie organization looks ridiculous. Clearly, the interest of French politicians in Armenia has always been, is, and will be exclusively linked to the factor of the Armenian diaspora in France.

And here it is appropriate to recall that on June 30, early parliamentary elections will be held in France, which Emmanuel Macron called after his party's failure in the European Parliament elections. Therefore, before the elections, we will hear many pro-Armenian and anti-Azerbaijani statements from French politicians. It must be emphasized that they are accustomed to lying and hypocrisy.

Otherwise, they would have spoken out earlier, during the nearly thirty years when 20 per cent of Azerbaijan's territory was under Armenian occupation. They could have pointed out Armenia's violations of international law, condemned the ethnic cleansing by Armenian militants on the Azerbaijani lands, denounced the genocide in Khojaly, the transformation of Aghdam into the "Hiroshima of the Caucasus," and the barbaric looting of all the occupied territories.

They did not do that. They preferred to sign agreements of brotherhood with the temporarily occupied territories of Azerbaijan, thereby supporting Armenian separatism. They did not condemn Armenia for missile strikes on Ganja, Barda, and Mingachevir during the 44-day war, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of Azerbaijani civilians, including women and children. Instead, they adopted a resolution calling on the French government to recognize the "independence" of the so-called "Artsakh."

But what has all this led to? Azerbaijan emerged victorious in the 44-day war, conducted a brilliant one-day anti-terrorist operation, fully restored its territorial integrity, and forced Armenia's leadership to recognize it. Despite Armenia's verbal claims of a desire for peace, it continues to arm itself and prepare for war. In Baku, all of this is observed, and appropriate preparations are being made. Any provocation from the Armenian side will be met with a strong and sobering response.

However, those French politicians who capitalized on verbal support for Armenia will not suffer any losses. This cannot be said about the Armenian fathers and mothers, whom the signatories of yet another anti-Azerbaijani letter in France have disregarded.
