Estonian media highlights strategic outcomes of Azerbaijani president’s visit to US
The Estonia-based business and information portal Business-M has published an in-depth article titled “Azerbaijan and the United States: A New Stage in Strategic Partnership”, dedicated to the outcomes of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's recent working visit to the United States at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
The article offers detailed coverage of the key meetings held during the visit, including the high-level talks between President Aliyev and President Trump, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
It also highlights the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America on the establishment of a Strategic Working Group. This group will be tasked with preparing a Charter on Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
The piece emphasizes that the creation of the Strategic Working Group is of particular importance, as it provides a formal institutional framework to deepen and operationalize bilateral cooperation.
One of the most symbolically significant moments of the visit was the signing of a presidential decree suspending Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act during the meeting between the two presidents. This step is noted as a key development in overcoming legislative barriers in Azerbaijani-American relations.
The visit also yielded major developments in the process of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. A trilateral summit took place with the participation of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States. The summit concluded with the signing of a Joint Declaration by Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders, witnessed by the US President. Additionally, the foreign ministers of both countries initialed a draft “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia”, and jointly appealed to the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office regarding the conclusion of the OSCE Minsk Process and the disbandment of related structures.
The visit also included the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between SOCAR and ExxonMobil, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. The document was signed by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill.
“The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the United States resulted in key agreements that strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. The signing of memoranda and declarations opens up new prospects in energy, security and the economy. An important step was the repeal of Amendment 907, which removes barriers in bilateral relations. Negotiations with Armenia under the auspices of the United States have brought the signing of a peace agreement closer. This visit has become a historic milestone in the politics of the region and Azerbaijani-American relations,” the article concludes.
