Israel attacks Hezbollah observers in Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked two Hezbollah observers in Yohmor, in southern Lebanon, about 5 km from Metula.
“A short while ago, two Hezbollah terrorists who served as observation operatives and directed terrorist activities were struck by the IDF in the area of Yohmor in southern Lebanon,” the IDF said on Telegram, Caliber.Az reports.
Earlier, Lebanese sources reported an explosion in the Yohmor neighbourhood.
In October 2024, Israeli forces initiated operations in southern Lebanon, aiming to dismantle Hezbollah's military infrastructure near the Blue Line. This led to intense clashes, notably in Maroun al-Ras, where Hezbollah successfully repelled an Israeli infantry unit, resulting in casualties on both sides.
The conflict prompted international mediation efforts. By November 2024, a ceasefire agreement was brokered, leading to a significant reduction in hostilities. However, reports suggest that Israel extended its military presence in southern Lebanon beyond the initially agreed-upon period, possibly due to Hezbollah's attempts to regroup.
Despite the ceasefire, sporadic incidents have continued. In March 2025, Israeli drone strikes targeted Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon, resulting in casualties. Additionally, clashes along the Lebanon-Syria border involved Hezbollah militants and Syrian forces, further complicating the regional security landscape.
