Israel presents case to UN, citing Iran’s growing nuclear threat
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has formally communicated to the UN Security Council the rationale and strategic objectives behind the military operation “People Like a Lion,” aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The detailed message outlines Israel’s position that the operation is a necessary response to the escalating threats posed by Tehran’s accelerated development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missile technology—armaments that have previously been deployed against Israeli territory, Caliber.Az reports per Israeli media.
In his letter, Saar underscored Iran’s extensive support for militant groups hostile to Israel, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and Yemen’s Houthi rebels, characterizing this strategy as a direct implementation of Iran’s openly declared intent to annihilate the State of Israel. The minister stressed that the military action adheres strictly to international law and emphasized that the decision to launch the operation was compelled by the failure of diplomatic efforts to contain the threat.
“The operation was an extreme forced measure aimed at preventing a catastrophic scenario,” Saar wrote, framing the campaign as a last resort to avert greater conflict and regional destabilization. The letter seeks to reaffirm Israel’s commitment to lawful self-defence while justifying the strikes as vital to national security.
