The first consignment of Azerbaijani petroleum products was sent to Armenia on December 18 from the Bilajari railway station.
According to Report, a total of 1,220 tonnes of AI-95 motor gasoline, loaded into 22 railcars, is being transported by a freight train operated by Azerbaijan Railways. The shipment is scheduled to arrive later on the evening of December 18 at the Boyuk Kesik station, located in Azerbaijan’s Aghstafa district.
From Boyuk Kesik, the fuel cargo will continue its journey to Armenia, transiting through the territory of Georgia.

As part of the ongoing peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the export of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia officially begins on December 18.
According to APA, this follows an agreement reached on November 28 in Gabala between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan. Under the terms of that agreement, today, 22 railcars of AI-95 gasoline produced by SOCAR are being dispatched from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
Officials emphasised that the export is entirely commercial in nature. The gasoline will be sold at prices aligned with international market rates, reflecting a purely trade-driven arrangement rather than political considerations.
The transit of Azerbaijani petroleum products through Georgian territory was also coordinated in advance. In a statement released on December 8, Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development noted that on December 5, a request was received from Georgian partners to carry out a one-time transit of fuel from Azerbaijan to Armenia via Georgia.
“By decision of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Railways was instructed to immediately carry out the one-time transportation of cargo by rail free of charge,” the statement said.
This arrangement demonstrates that the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not merely declarative but is being implemented in concrete, practical terms.
The export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia is a key illustration of the economic dividends stemming from the peace process. It is an important step toward building economic and trade relations between the two countries. Beyond bilateral benefits, the initiative is expected to contribute to the development of regional economic and trade cooperation, fostering closer ties among neighbouring countries in the future.
