US launches missile strikes on ISIS targets in Syria VIDEO
The United States has carried out a series of missile and air strikes against targets linked to the Islamic State group in Syria, the Pentagon has confirmed.
The operation, named Hawkeye Strike, followed an attack on US personnel near the ancient city of Palmyra on December 13, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Two American service members and a civilian contractor were killed in that assault, according to US officials.
Military sources said the strikes involved HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems as well as combat aircraft. F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets, A-10C Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft and AH-64E Apache helicopters were all used during the operation.
The Russian-linked Telegram channel Voyenny Osvedomitel said that multiple IS positions were hit, though independent verification of the claims has not been possible.
