US: New Jersey train collision causes minor injuries Rail service suspended
Two trains on New Jersey Transit’s Montclair-Boonton Line collided near Bay Street station in Montclair, New Jersey, on December 20, causing a minor derailment and injuring 17 people, authorities said.
The injuries have been reported as non-life-threatening, and emergency responders were on the scene quickly, Caliber.Az reports per US media.
NJ Transit police are investigating the cause of the crash, while officials are awaiting assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.
Rail service on the Montclair-Boonton Line remains suspended in both directions between Montclair Heights and Bay Street. NJ Transit said tickets and passes are being accepted on buses as an alternative.
“Our primary focus during this incident is the safety of our passengers, our employees and our first responders,” the transit agency said in a post on X. NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri and senior staff were present at the scene.
Further details on the cause of the collision and the condition of the injured passengers were not immediately available.
