Israeli military strikes Houthi targets in Yemen, killing six
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it carried out a series of airstrikes in the Sanaa area of Yemen, targeting military infrastructure used by the Houthi movement, with the group's health officials saying the attack had killed six people.
According to a statement released by the IDF, the operation included strikes on a military site where the presidential palace is located, as well as the Asar and Hizaz power plants and a fuel storage facility. The IDF claimed these sites were being used to support military activity, Caliber.Az reports.
The military added that the power plants “served as a significant electricity supply facility for military activities,” and argued that their use “constitutes further proof of how the Houthi regime uses civilian infrastructure for military purposes.”
The strikes came in response to recent projectile launches toward Israeli territory, including the launching of surface-to-surface missiles and UAVs.
“The IDF will operate against the ongoing and repeated attacks of the Houthi terrorist regime against the State of Israel, and remains determined to continue removing any threat posed to the civilians of the State of Israel, wherever it is required,” the IDF finalised.
A Houthi health ministry spokesperson said 86 people were also injured, in a final toll posted on X.
On August 22, the Houthis said they had fired a ballistic missile towards Israel in their latest attack, which they said was in support of Palestinians in Gaza. This was the first time that this kind of missile has been launched from Yemen.
