Israeli PM appoints new ambassador to United States
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Yechiel Leiter, a former deputy director-general of the Education Ministry, as Israel's new ambassador to the United States.
The announcement came after the United States presidential election, in which Republican Donald Trump emerged victorious, Caliber.Az reports citing Israeli media.
PM Netanyahu praised Leiter as a talented diplomat and an eloquent speaker. He emphasized that Leiter’s deep familiarity with both the American political landscape and the US administration makes him an ideal choice for the position.
Leiter, who was born in the United States, has a unique understanding of the country's culture and political system, which will be an asset in strengthening bilateral ties between Israel and the US.
“Yechiel Leiter is a highly talented diplomat, an eloquent speaker, and has a deep understanding of American culture and politics,” says Netanyahu in a statement.
“I am convinced that Yechiel will represent Israel in the best possible way, and I wish him success in his role.”
In a deeply personal note, it was mentioned that Leiter's son, Major Moshe Yedidya, tragically lost his life in combat in Gaza on November 10, 2023.
