Media: US may allow deep AFU strikes on Russia with one condition
Some media suggest that the U.S. may allow Ukraine to conduct deep strikes into Russian territory using French or British-made long-range missiles, while still maintaining restrictions on the use of American weaponry for such operations.
According to The Times, President Joe Biden is considering authorizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to employ British-made Storm Shadow missiles, along with their French equivalent, the Scalp missile, for long-range attacks within Russian borders, Caliber.Az reports.
This potential decision is said to be based on the fact that both the UK and France have supported such actions, thus allowing Ukraine to utilize European-made weapons rather than American ones for these operations.
Despite this possibility, Washington remains firm in its decision not to provide Kyiv with U.S.-produced ATACMS ballistic missiles, as American officials are focused on avoiding further escalation of the conflict. The U.S. administration continues to balance its support for Ukraine with the goal of preventing an increase in tensions with Russia.
However, the Pentagon has made it clear that its official policy concerning Ukraine's use of Western-supplied weapons for strikes on Russian territory has not changed. U.S. Department of Defence spokesperson, Major General Pete Ryder, confirmed this position, stating, "The policy has not changed at this point. I'm just going to leave it as it is."
