Moldova receives 29 US-supplied armoured vehicles to boost defence
The Republic of Moldova has received 29 U.S.-supplied armored vehicles aimed at enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.
The vehicles were officially presented during a ceremony held at the Military Training Camp, Caliber.Az reports, citing Moldovan media.
The newly delivered vehicles will be deployed by the Fulger Special Operations Battalion for national and international exercises, in line with its mission profile.
“We are equipping our personnel with advanced technology to ensure their safety while fulfilling their mission. Moldova requires a strong defence system to safeguard peace and security, ensuring that citizens feel protected and can live their lives in peace,” said Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi during the ceremony.
The armoured vehicles are designed for versatile operations, capable of navigating rough terrain and waterways.
“The empty weight of this vehicle is 4.7 tons, and when fully loaded with personnel and equipment, it increases to 6 tons. It can traverse both rough terrain and paved roads, can be air-dropped, and enables deployment in any location worldwide,” explained Sergeant Veaceslav Neamțu.
In addition to their mobility, the vehicles are equipped with integrated heating and air conditioning systems, ensuring functionality in extreme weather conditions.
“These vehicles are more modern, featuring air conditioning and heating systems for winter, along with various support systems during movement. They are also equipped with radio stations and communication systems, including amplifiers and antennas, which ensure secure long-range communication even in challenging environments,” said Sergeant Denis Pari.
Manufactured in 2024, the 29 armored vehicles were delivered to the National Army in January through the External Assistance Program, with a total value of $8.9 million. Over the past five years, the United States has provided $90 million in military assistance to support the modernization of Moldova’s National Army.
