Qatar seeks to boost mediation efforts in Gaza conflict - PM Al-Ansari
Qatar has announced plans to intensify its diplomatic efforts to help resolve the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, with officials citing a new “window of opportunity” for negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks, highlighting his country's continued commitment to regional peacebuilding, Caliber.Az reports, citing Al Jazeera.
Al-Ansari pointed to the recently brokered ceasefire between Iran and Israel — facilitated by Qatari diplomacy — as a key development that has created favourable conditions for further dialogue.
“We intend to use the momentum generated during negotiations with President Donald Trump’s administration to help reach an agreement between Hamas and Israel,” the senior diplomat stated.
While acknowledging that substantial challenges remain, Al-Ansari expressed cautious optimism about prospects for peace, noting that “although real progress is still a long way off, the foundations for a sustainable resolution in the region are beginning to take shape.”
Qatar has long positioned itself as a mediator in Middle Eastern conflicts, leveraging its diplomatic ties with various actors to foster dialogue in some of the world’s most intractable disputes.
