NATO member states purchase $21 billion in arms from US, envoy says
In 2024, NATO member states purchased around $21 billion worth of weapons and military equipment from the United States.
This was stated by U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of State, per Caliber.Az.
According to Whitaker, such procurements not only strengthen the Alliance’s collective defence but also contribute to job creation in the United States and the development of the national industrial base.
Data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) indicates that a significant portion of these imports likely comprised combat aircraft and helicopters, with European NATO states receiving over 150 combat aircraft and 60 combat helicopters from the U.S. in the past five years, and having 472 combat aircraft and 150 combat helicopters on order by the end of 2024.
