Zelenskyy claims major strike on Russian naval base in Novorossiysk

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed a Ukrainian attack on Novorossiysk and other areas of Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, saying an oil terminal, military port facilities and warships were hit.

“We are responding to Russia’s daily strikes effectively and across virtually the entire geography. Over the past 24 hours, there have been results in Novorossiysk and Krasnodar Krai. The naval base was hit: a terminal involved in oil loading, military port facilities, warships, and Kalibr missile carriers,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

He thanked personnel from Ukraine’s Security Service, Special Operations Forces, Navy, Defence Intelligence and State Border Guard Service for what he described as the precision of the operation.

“I thank everyone who is developing the capabilities of our long-range sanctions so that the Russian war is increasingly felt where it came from,” he added, attaching a video to his post.

Earlier, Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said four people, including a child, had been killed and 29 others injured in a nighttime Ukrainian drone attack on Novorossiysk.

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) analysis by ASTRA reported that large fires broke out overnight on September 9 at the Novorossiysk fuel oil terminal and in an apartment building.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces separately claimed that Ukrainian forces had struck missile boats in Novorossiysk, as well as a Su-33 fighter jet and an Mi-8 helicopter in Anapa. They also said two radar systems in the Gelendzhik area had been hit.
