Media: US special envoy to hold talks on possible Iran nuclear deal
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is scheduled to hold talks in the coming days aimed at reaching a potential agreement with Iran.
The discussions are expected to focus on halting Iran’s uranium enrichment program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions, Caliber.Az quotes NBC.
However, Iranian officials have not yet confirmed the possibility of new negotiations with the United States or provided any details regarding a timeline for such talks.
In recent months, the US and Iran conducted five rounds of negotiations aiming for a diplomatic resolution to concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme — essentially a potential successor to the 2015 nuclear deal that Trump withdrew from during his first term. No agreement had been reached, though a sixth round was planned before the Israeli strike on June 13.
Before the announcemen of ceasefire, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi ruled out any negotiations, saying Tehran would not engage in talks “with any party” until Israeli attacks stop.
