Egypt, Pakistan discuss expanding military, civilian cooperation
Egypt and Pakistan discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in military and civilian production on Sunday, September 21.
The minister, Salah al-Din Mostafa, highlighted recent high-level talks, including President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Doha, and outlined Egypt's Ministry of Military Production’s key capabilities, including 15 industrial subsidiaries, a construction company, a scientific and technological centre, maintenance and training sectors, a medical centre, weapons testing grounds, and an engineering academy, Caliber.Az reports via a London-based Arabic newspaper.
Mostafa emphasised that the ministry's primary mission is to provide the armed forces and police with military products, including small, medium, and heavy-calibre ammunition, weapons, equipment, armoured vehicles, tanks, and electronic systems.
“The ministry is committed to cooperating with all global companies to localise the latest manufacturing technologies and improve the quality of military and civil products,” Mostafa said.
The minister expressed hope for a strategic partnership between Egyptian defence manufacturing companies and their Pakistani counterparts in the manufacturing sector, which would benefit both sides.
Ambassador Shouket highlighted the depth of Egypt–Pakistan relations, recalling Egypt as the first Middle Eastern country where Pakistan established an embassy, and praised Egypt’s industrial, investment, and infrastructure initiatives. He expressed strong interest from Pakistani companies in collaborating with the Ministry of Military Production, noting its efficiency, precision, and successful track record in national projects.
Recent engagements include al-Sisi’s July meeting with Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and Egypt’s recognition of the May ceasefire between India and Pakistan as a positive step toward South Asian stability.
