Japan’s FM: Recognition of Palestinian statehood inevitable
Japan’s recognition of Palestinian statehood is only a matter of time, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya stated at an international conference on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"For my country, recognising Palestine is not a matter of 'if,' but a matter of 'when,'" Iwaya said, Caliber.Az reports via a Russian newspaper.
He recalled that Japan has always consistently supported the concept of "two states for two peoples."
The Japanese Foreign Minister also condemned Israel's "unilateral actions" in the Gaza Strip, while at the same time criticising the Hamas movement and demanding the immediate release of all hostages.
Japan has maintained a balanced foreign policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, emphasising diplomacy and a two-state solution. While not yet recognising Palestine as a sovereign state, Japan has provided substantial humanitarian and development aid to the Palestinian territories, aiming to support stability and peace negotiations in the region.
