Trump hopes for diplomatic solution to Gaza conflict

US President Donald Trump has expressed his hope for a diplomatic solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Reporters asked him whether Trump supported a diplomatic solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.

He responded: "I would like to see a diplomatic solution. There's a lot of anger and hatred, and it's been going on for many years, but that's nothing new."

Speaking about the situation in Gaza, Trump described the territory as being in “real chaos.”

Trump’s comments come amid ongoing tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, particularly following the Gaza war that began on October 7, 2023, triggered by Hamas’s attack on Israel. A fragile ceasefire, effective since January 15, 2025, has allowed some displaced Palestinians to return, but Gaza remains devastated, with over 65,000 deaths and reconstruction costs estimated in the tens of billions, according to the Strip’s Health Ministry.

Trump’s recent statement signals a shift toward diplomacy, aligning with US-led ceasefire talks involving hostage releases and efforts to counter Hamas’s influence. However, significant obstacles remain, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to a Palestinian state and regional resistance to displacement plans.
