NATO envoys to convene over Russian jet incursion in Estonia

NATO ambassadors will meet on September 22 to discuss Russia’s violation of Estonian airspace.

The emergency session was called after Tallinn triggered Article 4 of the alliance treaty, which allows members to request consultations when they feel their territorial integrity or security is under threat, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media. 

Estonia accused Moscow of sending three MiG-31 fighter jets into its airspace without authorisation on September 19. The Kremlin, however, rejected the allegation, claiming without evidence that Estonia was fabricating the incident to escalate tensions.

The meeting in Brussels is expected to focus on the alliance’s collective response to the incursion.
