Poland, Romania to deploy Turkish Merops air surveillance system
21 September 2025 16:47
Amid recent UAV incidents, Poland and Romania plan to use the Turkish Merops (Multispectral Extended Range Optical Sight) air surveillance system, DPA reports.
Training on operating the system is expected to begin shortly. NATO partners are looking at a short-term deployment of the Turkish system following recent drone incidents.
The training is reportedly planned with Ukrainian support, with initial steps expected as early as next week.
The Merops system can be mounted on helicopters and is capable of detecting hostile systems through clouds and dust. It was first unveiled to the public in 2022.
