UK, Australia, Canada officially recognise the State of Palestine
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, announced that London officially recognises the State of Palestine.
He emphasised that Hamas should play no role in Palestinian governance and stated that the UK will expand sanctions against the movement.
According to Caliber.Az, Australia has also recognised Palestinian statehood. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong declared, “Australia recognises the independent and sovereign State of Palestine.”
Additionally, the Canadian government has recognised Palestine. Prime Minister Mark Carney said, “Since 1947, every Canadian government’s policy has been to support a two-state solution to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. This entails the creation of a sovereign, democratic, and viable State of Palestine.”
Carney also noted that the Israeli government has systematically worked to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, citing Israel’s policy of expanding settlements in the West Bank, which violates international law.
