Israel, United States vs Iran PHOTO / VIDEO / UPDATED

16 March 2026 01:22

These live updates have now concluded. Follow the latest developments here

On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out a series of strikes on Iranian territory. Major cities and military infrastructure facilities came under attack, including military bases and command centres. In response, Iran launched missile strikes against Israel, as well as against several other countries in the region — including targets and airspace in the UAE, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria.

As of March 13, the situation in the region remains extremely tense. The sides continue exchanging statements, and new episodes of escalation are being reported. Information is being updated as new reports emerge.

01:08

Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had approved military action plans in the event of an attack by the United States or Israel, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said, TASS reports via SNN.

Major General Ali Mohammad Naeini, an IRGC official, stated that the US did not take into account that the martyred Imam had established a war doctrine envisioning the conflict having a regional dimension.

He added that operational plans had been reviewed and approved before the martyrdom of the revolutionary leader.

March 16, 00:22

The Israeli Air Force struck more than 200 sites in western and central Iran during the day, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced on Telegram.

“Over the past day, the IDF struck more than 200 targets belonging to the Iranian regime.

Among the targets were command centers in which regime operatives were active, defense systems, and weapon storage and production sites,” the Israeli army added.

21:10

Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium is currently buried under the debris of a nuclear facility following US strikes, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated.

In an interview with CBS, he stressed, however, that it could be recovered under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“So, they are, there are under the rubbles. You know, the- our nuclear facilities were attacked, and everything is under the rubbles. Of course, you know there is the possibility to retrieve them, but under the supervision of the agency,” he said.

Araghchi added that Iran currently has no active nuclear program and no plans to extract the uranium from beneath the debris.

20:44

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on March 15 addressed a wave of rumors and conspiracy theories circulating widely on social media claiming that he is no longer alive and that his recent public appearances were generated using artificial intelligence, according Israeli media.

The speculation intensified after internet users shared a screenshot from a recording of the prime minister’s speech, alleging that his hand appeared deformed and that it showed six fingers—a common error associated with AI-generated video models.

Asked directly about the claims that “the internet says you are actually dead,” Netanyahu responded jokingly: “I love coffee with my people. They are behaving fantastically.”

He then raised his hand toward the camera and sarcastically asked, “Do you want to count the number of fingers?”, dismissing the main piece of “evidence” cited by supporters of the conspiracy theory.

19:51

Four US citizens currently held in Evin Prison in Tehran are safe, but the situation could change if Israel or the United States decides to strike the facility, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with CBS.

“If they- if the U.S. and Israel do not attack our prisons. I guess they are safe,” he said.

Evin Prison was targeted by an Israeli strike in June 2025, which damaged several sections of the penitentiary facility.

19:06

The Israeli military is preparing to continue its campaign against Iran for at least three more weeks, with “thousands of targets” still remaining, according to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Effie Defrin, who spoke to CNN.

“We have thousand of targets ahead,” Defrin said.

“We are ready, in coordination with our US allies, with plans through at least the Jewish holiday of Passover, about three weeks from now. And we have deeper plans for even three weeks beyond that," he noted.

Defrin added that the IDF is “not working according to a stopwatch, or a timetable, but rather to achieve our goals,” which are to “weaken the Iranian regime severely.”

18:29

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it used Sejjil ballistic missiles against Israel during the 54th phase of Operation True Promise-4.

According to the IRGC statement, the stage of the operation also involved Khorramshahr missiles with a two-ton warhead, as well as Kheibar Shekan, Ghadr, and Emad missiles.

The missiles were reportedly aimed at key Israeli military and defense-industry infrastructure, as well as air traffic control centers.

18:19

The confrontation between the United States and Iran is expected to conclude in the coming weeks, according to the US energy chief, who also suggested that the standoff could end even sooner.

Speaking to ABC News, Chris Wright said his forecast would “definitely” come true and did not rule out an earlier resolution. He expressed confidence that once hostilities cease, disrupted supply chains that were affected by the Iranian crisis will begin to recover.

Wright also said gasoline prices are likely to fall in the coming weeks, although he noted that this cannot be guaranteed.

The broadcaster cited data from GasBuddy showing that as of the morning of March 15, the average gasoline price in the United States had risen by 76 cents per gallon (3.78 liters).

17:55

The United States did not attack oil infrastructure on Iran’s Khark Island, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in an interview with ABC News.

According to Wright, U.S. military strikes targeted only military facilities located on the island.

The U.S. had previously announced the complete destruction of all military targets on Khark Island in the Persian Gulf, describing the operation as one of the most powerful strikes in the region’s history. Iran, however, stated that these claims are inaccurate: the island’s air defense systems remain operational, and its oil infrastructure was not damaged.

13:56

A US military base, Victoria, in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad has come under attack, according to Sabereen News.

Journalists reported that the facility was targeted by local Shiite groups, with a major fire breaking out on the base’s territory.

On March 14, the Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country’s Consulate General in Iraqi Kurdistan had also been struck. According to the ministry, the building was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), sustaining damage, while two security guards were injured.

The UAE described the attack on its consulate as a serious violation of the Vienna Convention, which guarantees the inviolability of diplomatic missions and the protection of their personnel. The ministry condemned the “unprovoked” strike and called on Iraqi authorities to investigate the incident.

On the same day, the US Embassy in Baghdad was also targeted. Al Hadath reported that local security forces completely sealed off the Green Zone in central Baghdad, where most government institutions and many foreign embassies are located.

13:09

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that, at present, there are no specific proposals aimed at ending the armed conflict with the United States and Israel.

He made the remarks in an interview with Al Araby Al Jadeed.

“At the moment, no concrete initiative has been proposed to end the war. However, we would welcome any regional initiative that leads to a just resolution of the conflict,” the foreign minister said.

12:52

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that the country continues to maintain diplomatic channels with Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and other neighbouring states.

“Diplomatic contacts with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and neighbouring countries are ongoing,” the foreign minister told Al Araby Al Jadeed.

Araghchi added that Tehran is ready to establish a joint commission with regional countries to investigate incidents related to attacks on various facilities.

10:07

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has reported a fourth wave of rocket launches from Iran toward Israel within 24 hours.

The Israeli military shared the information on its Telegram channel.

According to the IDF, the rockets reached central Israel. Search and rescue operations are underway, and civil defence forces are assisting residents at the sites where rockets landed.

During the third alert, rockets also targeted central Israel. According to the military, some rockets were intercepted, while others exploded “in open areas.”

No casualties have been reported.

09:40

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said it had carried out strikes on Israel and three United States air bases, as reported by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

According to the military, missiles struck industrial sectors of Tel Aviv. Among the US facilities targeted were the Harir Air Base in Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as Ali Al Salem Air Base and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

The strikes were carried out using missiles and drones.

17:47

Iran has called on residents and workers in areas around Jebel Ali, Khalifa, and Fujairah ports in the United Arab Emirates to leave immediately, warning that these zones could come under fire in the coming hours, Iran International reports.

According to the statement, the areas are considered legitimate targets because US military personnel are reportedly operating within civilian infrastructure. Authorities urged civilians, port workers, and anyone near the facilities to evacuate as quickly as possible to protect their lives.

17:33

US President Donald Trump knew that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz after the start of military operations, but still ordered the attack, anticipating a swift victory for American forces, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.

Trump discussed with advisors how the US could compel Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and deploy the Navy to escort vessels through the maritime corridor, according to the report.

Sources added that the president was presented with several possible scenarios, including the likely closure of the strait.

16:54

The United Arab Emirates air defence systems intercepted nine ballistic missiles and 33 unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran on March 14, the country's Defence Ministry announced on social media platform X.

“Since the onset of the blatant Iranian aggression, UAE air defences have engaged 294 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1600 UAVs launched from Iran.

These attacks have resulted in 6 fatalities of Emirati, Pakistani, Nepali and Bangladeshi nationals, and 141 minor to moderate injuries among nationals of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia and Sweden.

The Ministry of Defence affirmed that it remains fully prepared and ready to deal with any threats, and will firmly confront any attempts to undermine State security in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, security and stability, and safeguards its national interests and capabilities,” the ministry said.

15:33

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have destroyed the Iranian Space Agency and an aerial defence system production factory, the Israeli military said in a statement on Telegram.

“The IDF continues to deepen its strikes on the systems and capabilities of the Iranian terror regime.

Yesterday evening (Friday), the Israeli Air Force, acting on IDF intelligence, struck dozens of Iranian terror regime infrastructure sites across Tehran.

As part of the strikes, the IDF dismantled the regime’s primary space research centre, which is part of the Iranian regime's forces.

The centre contained strategic laboratories used for research, including developing military satellites for a range of purposes, including surveillance, intelligence collection, and directing fire toward targets across the Middle East.

The IDF also struck several Iranian terror regime aerial defence systems production sites. As part of the strikes, the IDF struck a key factory used to produce Iranian terror regime air defence systems. The strike significantly degrades the Iranian terror regime's ability to rehabilitate its aerial defence array.

These strikes are part of the ongoing efforts focused on deepening the damage to the Iranian terror regime’s core assets,” the military added.

14:58

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had detected missile launches from Iran “a short while ago.”

In a message published on the IDF’s Telegram channel, the military stated that interception efforts are currently underway.

“In the past few minutes, the Home Front Command has sent a precautionary directive directly to mobile phones in the relevant areas.

The public is asked to act responsibly and follow the instructions—they save lives.

Upon receiving an alert, the public is instructed to enter a protected space and remain there until further notice.

Leaving a protected space is permitted only after receiving explicit instructions. The public is requested to continue acting in accordance with the Home Front Command’s guidelines,” the statement said.

13:57

On March 13, the IDF carried out additional strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut and southern Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces press service.

“Additional command centers established by the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Beirut were struck and destroyed by the IDF. This included Hezbollah command centers from which terrorists operated to advance terror attacks against the State of Israel and its residents.

Since the beginning of Operation Roaring Lion, IDF strikes in Lebanon have severely damaged the organization’s command and control capabilities, its financial situation, and the weapons in its possession.

Since the start of Operation Roaring Lion, the IDF has struck approximately 110 Hezbollah command centers.

The Hezbollah terrorist organization systematically embeds its infrastructure within the civilian population across Lebanon. This is another example of the organization’s cynical exploitation of Lebanese civilians for its terrorist activities,” the statement said.

13:42

After the destruction of its military bases in the region, the US military is reportedly using ports, docks, and shelters in cities of the United Arab Emirates, on Abu Musa Island, and parts of Khark Island to launch missiles.

This was reported by IRIB, citing a statement from a representative of the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic, “Khatam al-Anbiya.”

According to the statement, Iran considers it legitimate to defend its national sovereignty and territory by striking US missile launch sites located in ports, docks, and shelters within certain UAE cities.

“We call on the Muslim population of the UAE and residents in these areas to evacuate ports, docks, and US shelters in the cities to avoid harm,” the statement added.

13:35

Former Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council, Mohsen Rezaee, stated that “The end of the war is in our hands,” according to Clash Report.

“We will consider ending the war only when, first, we receive full compensation for all our damages from the United States, and second, we obtain a 100% guarantee for the future, which is not possible without the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Persian Gulf.

Therefore, the second condition is the U.S. withdrawal from the Persian Gulf,” Rezaei said.

13:05

Global Coalition forces intercepted two unidentified drones over Iraqi Kurdistan on Saturday amid rising security concerns in Iraq and the broader region, according to Shafaq News.

Coalition air defences destroyed one drone that was heading toward Erbil International Airport before it could reach the facility and shot down a second drone over Al-Sulaymaniyah.

No casualties were reported in either incident, although debris from the drones caused minor damage to nearby structures. Authorities are still investigating the origin of the drones and who was behind the attempted strikes.

Since the outbreak of the US–Israeli conflict with Iran on February 28, cities across the Kurdistan region have experienced a series of rocket and drone attacks. Targets have included the Harir military base, Erbil International Airport, and the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in northern Iraq. The US-based monitoring group Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) has documented more than 190 missile and drone attacks in the region during this period.

Our Weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated that the World has ever known but, for reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island.
