Latvia to host "Drone Summit" with NATO experts
Latvia is preparing to host a “Drone Summit” as part of a broader program of large-scale testing of unmanned aerial systems and counter-drone technologies planned for 2026.
According to reports cited by Caliber.Az, the announcement was made by Latvia’s defence minister Andris Sprūds.
Sprūds said the “Drone Summit” will take place on May 27 and will bring together military experts and senior representatives from member states of NATO. A day earlier, demonstration tests of drones and counter-drone systems will be conducted at the Selia Training Ground.
The events will be held within the framework of the NATO Innovation Range mission.
According to the defence minister, the gathering is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants from 20 countries that are part of the Drone Coalition, as well as other allied states.
The summit will bring together politicians, military officials, scientists and representatives of the defence industry to discuss the future of unmanned technologies in defence. Experts will also examine the advantages and limitations of drone use on the battlefield, along with their impact on combat operations, ethical considerations and the evolving nature of military service.
