Iranian state media reported that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of the strikes. According to official statements from Tehran, the attack occurred while he was at his working residence.

As of March 12, the situation in the region remains extremely tense. The sides continue exchanging statements, while new episodes of escalation are being recorded. The information is being updated as new reports emerge.

“This is something that I share with the people who have lost their ones because I lost my father, I lost my wife. My sister lost her child as well as the husband who has been martyred.

But what it makes it easier for us to endure all these plights is to trust the grace of God and to know that patience is going to resolve it.

I assure everyone that we will not ignoring the fact that we are going to revenge our martyrs.

It is not only about the fact that they martyred our supreme leader. And it is not only about him, it is about every single countryman that has been killed during the recent war,” Khamenei stated.

17:49

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani warned that Tehran would retaliate against Middle Eastern power networks if the US targets Iran’s energy infrastructure.

He commented on President Donald Trump’s claim that the US could destroy Iran’s power grid in "one hour."

“If they do that, the whole region will go dark in less than half an hour,” Larijani wrote on his Telegram channel, adding that “darkness provides ample opportunity to hunt down US servicemen running for safety.”

Authorities in New Zealand are exploring potential restrictions to conserve fuel, including car-free days, according to New Zealand news portal Stuff.

The measures under review reference legislation from the early 1980s, when Prime Minister Robert Muldoon’s government could limit gasoline sales, issue fuel rationing, and enforce mandatory “car-free days.”

Discussions took place during a ministerial meeting on economic security and supply chains, prompted by soaring fuel prices and disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.

Finance Minister Nicola Willis emphasised that such restrictions are a contingency plan. “Those steps would only be necessary if we were seeing genuine disruption to our ability to get fuel beyond the 50 days of storage that we currently have,” she said.

Fuel prices have already risen sharply: 91-octane gasoline has surpassed $3 per liter, reaching up to $3.24 in some regions. Aviation fuel costs are also increasing, affecting air travel, with Air New Zealand warning of potential flight cancellations and higher ticket prices. Government estimates indicate the country’s current fuel reserves are sufficient for approximately 50 days.

Khamenei emphasised that the nation’s unity — which becomes most visible in times of hardship — must not be disrupted, and added that this unity should be maintained by setting aside points of dispute.

The source added that an updated report on the issue had been prepared in recent days. Intelligence data indicates cohesion within Iran’s clerical leadership despite the change of leader.

Qatar has called for an immediate de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East and urged both Iran and the United States to return to the negotiating table for a mediated solution, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, told Al Jazeera in an exclusive interview.

Al-Khulaifi criticized Iran’s missile and drone attacks on neighboring countries, saying they “bring benefit for no one.” The attacks, which are in response to a nearly two-week-long bombardment campaign by US and Israeli forces, have caused casualties, damaged critical infrastructure, and severely disrupted the Gulf region’s energy-dependent economy.

Qatar remains “extremely worried” about the broader impact of the strikes, particularly on civilian infrastructure. “It’s unfortunate where we are standing right now,” the minister said. “We also believe that there is no pathway to a sustainable and long-lasting solution other than returning to the negotiation table.”

He condemned the “unjustified and outrageous attacks on the state of Qatar that directly impact its own sovereignty” and stressed that Doha will continue to take “every possible and legal measure to defend and practise its exercise of self-defence against this aggression.”

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, al-Khulaifi called for a “global solution” to ensure the Gulf’s energy supply chain remains uninterrupted. “Ensuring freedom of movement through the waterway is very critical,” he said.

The minister also noted that Iran has targeted Qatar and Oman, two countries that previously acted as regional mediators attempting to “build bridges between Iran and the West.” “We will not be able to fulfil that role under attack, and that’s something the Iranians need to understand,” he added.

Al-Khulaifi said Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani recently urged Iran to cease attacks during a phone call with Tehran. “The regional countries are not an enemy of Iran, and the Iranians are not understanding that idea,” he said.

Doha continues to maintain open channels with US officials, encouraging President Donald Trump to pursue peaceful resolutions. “Our line of communication is always open with our colleagues in the United States, and we keep encouraging and supporting the pathway of peace and resolving conflicts through peaceful means,” al-Khulaifi said. “We really hope that the parties can find that pathway, end military operations, and return to the negotiation table.”

He added that the military was using various advanced artificial intelligence tools, which help process massive amounts of data in seconds, allowing leaders to filter out unnecessary information and make decisions faster than the enemy can react.

Cooper emphasized that final decisions on what, when, and whether to strike would always be made by humans, but advanced AI could reduce processes that previously took hours or even days to just a few seconds.

Today, they are essentially twins of Hamas. From those tunnels, they issue orders to fire on civilians and civilian targets in Israel and across the entire region. This is what they have become—the twin leadership of Hamas,” Katz said.

He added: “Thousands have been killed. They are hiding this by shutting down the internet, but I understand that hospital morgues are full. We are targeting terrorist forces here, not civilians. This must continue.”
