Black Sea incident: Greek tanker comes under assault near Russian port
Greece’s Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, stated that the tanker Maran Homer came under attack 14 nautical miles (26 km) off Novorossiysk, Russia.
The vessel had 24 crew members on board—10 Greeks, 13 Filipinos, and 1 Romanian, according to Greek media.
No injuries were reported, and only the starboard side of the ship was damaged.
According to the Greek Ministry of Shipping, Maran Homer had departed Thessaloniki and was empty at the time of the incident. The tanker, chartered by Chevron, continues its voyage under its own power, and no environmental damage has been recorded.
Maran Tankers Management Inc. clarified that the attack occurred outside Russian territorial waters while the vessel awaited clearance to enter the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal in Novorossiysk to receive Kazakh oil. Maran Homer has since departed Novorossiysk.
