Tajikistan president, US envoy discuss bilateral cooperation

31 August 2026 15:46

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with US Special Presidential Envoy for Central and South Asia Sergio Gor and US Senator Steve Daines in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on August 31, where the sides discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation.

Tajik president’s press service said Rahmon highlighted the important role of the C5+1 (the Central Asia+US) format as a platform for dialogue and regional cooperation, Caliber.Az reports.

Tajik leader has travelled to Bishkek to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, where a package of 27 documents is expected to be adopted.

Among the key documents are the Bishkek Declaration and a protocol introducing amendments to the SCO Charter.

A separate group of documents concerns practical cooperation among SCO member states, including memorandums and decisions on climate change, information cooperation and artificial intelligence.

The summit is also expected to consider documents related to the establishment or operation of the SCO Universal Centre and the organisation’s Anti-Drug Centre.

Another document is expected to regulate cooperation between the SCO and the African Union.
