Morocco set to buy Israeli cruise missiles for war with Algeria PHOTO

03 July 2023 16:58

Morocco intends to purchase a batch of Israeli Delilah short-range cruise missiles for installation on F-5 fighter-bombers of the Royal Air Force.

This is reported by Nziv.net with reference to the Spanish portal Defensa, initial contacts on this matter took place in May 2022.

Delilah, created by Elbit Systems, is designed to become the first missile in service with the Moroccan Air Force, capable of effectively hitting land and sea targets within a radius of 250 km. The contract for the supply of cruise missiles is currently under consideration by the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

In addition to supplying its armed forces with light cruise missiles, Morocco announced plans to modernise the fighters with fire control radars, digital displays, as well as improved data transmission channels.

The list of upcoming upgrades also includes advanced processing systems, signal suppression systems and air-to-air and air-to-ground attack missiles, such as the Delilah cruise missile.

The Delilah missile is an advanced cruise missile used by the Israeli Air Force. The Delilah missile is characterised by the ability to travel long distances and accurately hit specific targets. This missile is part of the Israeli weapons system aimed at achieving control over the airspace and conducting effective military operations.

The Delilah rocket has several important technical characteristics. It is equipped with a solid-fuel rocket engine and is controlled by precise navigation systems such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and remote sensing system (telemetry). Delilah is also equipped with a warhead that can be loaded in various ways, including conventional or smart bombs.

It is known that the Delilah missile is launched from fighter jets or drones, which gives the Israeli forces the opportunity to use it in different conditions and at different distances.

Israeli weapons are being purchased against the background of a sharp deterioration in relations between Morocco and Algeria.

So, a month ago, the Algerian government media accused France, Israel and Morocco of organising internal unrest in Algeria and Tunisia. According to these reports, a detailed plan to destabilise the situation in Algeria was allegedly developed at a meeting of "representatives of Israeli, Moroccan and French services" in Tel Aviv.
