Trump, European leaders agree on security guarantees for Ukraine
US President Donald Trump and European leaders have agreed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will head a working group tasked with developing security guarantees for Ukraine.
The group will include national security advisors and representatives from NATO, according to European officials familiar with the talks, Caliber.Az reports per U.S. media.
Sources told the newspaper that the agreement was reached on August 18, with Rubio set to lead the team in drafting the proposed security measures.
European officials indicated that the guarantees would comprise four key components: military presence, air defence, armaments, and monitoring of ceasefire compliance.
Officials also suggested that there are several ways the United States could provide indirect military support to European peacekeepers in Ukraine without deploying American troops on Ukrainian soil.
