Chinese FM heads to Pakistan to cement regional cooperation, economic partnership
Chinese Foreign Minister and Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Yi, will embark on an official visit to Pakistan from August 20 to 22, to co-chair the 6th Round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
The visit, confirmed by both Chinese and Pakistani foreign ministries, underscores the enduring strength of the China-Pakistan strategic partnership, which spans a wide spectrum of cooperation—ranging from trade and energy to defence, infrastructure, and regional security, Caliber.Az reports, citing Chinese media.
The dialogue, set to take place on August 21 in Islamabad, forms part of a regular series of high-level consultations aimed at enhancing bilateral collaboration under the banner of the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.”
A statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Office says that the upcoming round of talks will seek to deepen mutual support on issues of core national interest, boost economic and trade engagement, and reinforce joint efforts to promote peace, development, and stability in the region.
This is the latest in a string of high-level interactions between Islamabad and Beijing. The previous round of the strategic dialogue was held in May 2024 in Beijing, co-chaired by Wang Yi and Ishaq Dar. Since then, the two sides have remained in close contact, including a meeting between Dar and Wang on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit last month, where both reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration across key sectors such as agriculture, mining, industrial development, and security.
“China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and push forward the building of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future,” Wang Yi had stated during that meeting.
In February, President Asif Ali Zardari also met Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, further solidifying the two countries’ strategic alignment. Both sides pledged to strengthen the comprehensive partnership, with renewed focus on regional connectivity and economic resilience.
