Mosque in Fuzuli, factory in Khankandi: Central Asian allies back Azerbaijan’s revival with tangible support

22 August 2025 16:17

Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan reaffirmed their deepening ties and strategic partnership during a high-level trilateral meeting held in Turkmenbashi, where a series of joint initiatives and symbolic gestures highlighted the growing unity among the three nations.

Speaking after the high-level meeting, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the centuries-long bonds between the Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples, stressing that the spirit of brotherhood continues to shape their bilateral relationship, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“The Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples have lived and created together for centuries, like one family and as brothers,” said President Aliyev.

“Today, these two independent states remain faithful to these traditions, uphold them, and take joint steps toward new horizons.”

He reaffirmed the enduring solidarity between the two nations, stating: “Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, as two brotherly nations, will continue to move forward shoulder to shoulder.”

One of the most notable outcomes of the summit was the announcement of a major cultural and religious contribution from Turkmenistan. A mosque will be built in the recently liberated Azerbaijani city of Fuzuli as a gesture of friendship and support.

“While in Fuzuli, Gurbanguly Malikgulyyevich proposed the construction of a mosque as a gift from Turkmenistan. I accepted this proposal with gratitude. Although only a month has passed, the architectural design of the mosque is already prepared, and its foundation will be laid in the near future,” President Aliyev added.

In another act of solidarity, Uzbekistan has contributed to the economic recovery of the Karabakh region through the establishment of a large-scale sewing factory in Khankandi. The facility, launched at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, represents a concrete step toward employment generation and social reintegration in the area.

“The large sewing factory, established on the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, currently employs over two hundred people, the vast majority of whom are women. As a result of the factory’s expansion, the number of employees will increase several times,” the Azerbaijani president stated.

“This is a great gift from the brotherly Uzbek people to Azerbaijan and the reviving Karabakh region,” President Aliyev added.

In his remarks for the press, the Azerbaijani president noted that a new, highly promising, and peace-oriented cooperation format is being created in the region. President Aliyev described this as a historic day.
