NATO to open logistics hub in Romania for arms transit to Ukraine
A new NATO logistics centre will begin operations in Romania in January 2026, coordinating the transit of weapons and military equipment for Ukraine, Defense Express reports.
The facility will become the alliance’s second major hub, following the Polish centre in Rzeszów.
The opening was confirmed by NATO Deputy Commander for Support to Ukraine, General Mike Keller.
According to Defense Romania, the Romanian hub will work in tandem with the Polish facility, doubling the maximum capacity for arms transit, including supplies under the PURL mechanism, where the U.S. sells weapons for Ukraine and European countries cover the costs.
Experts note that the addition of a second hub reduces dependence on Poland and ensures more stable deliveries of critical air defence systems, missiles, and ammunition.
General Keller added that in 2025, partners delivered roughly 220,000 tons of military aid to Ukraine — equivalent to 9,000 trucks, 1,800 railcars, and about 500 cargo flights carrying weapons and equipment.
