Netherlands, Latvia using reserved gas as wind generation declines
The Netherlands and Latvia have switched to using gas from their underground storage facilities (UGS) amid a decrease in wind generation in the European region.
The use of reserved gas in the Netherlands for the first time since the end of the heating season in April exceeded the injection level, Gazeta.Ru reports, citing the data of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).
As the predicted low-wind weather can harm alternative energy, the country’s UGCs are filled by 93.27 per cent, which makes a little more than 12.5 billion cubic metres of gas.
Meanwhile, Latvia also started using gas from the UGCs, but a similar situation already existed in September. UGS facilities in the country are 53.9 per cent full, which is the lowest figure in entire Europe.
The decline in supplies from Russia did not prevent European countries from filling storage facilities, where the total level of gas reserves for the region is 91.5 per cent.
