Germany’s military support for Ukraine to reach €40 billion in coming years
Germany’s military assistance to Ukraine is set to total €40 billion in the coming years, according to a statement published on the country’s Foreign Ministry website.
In addition to military support, Germany has allocated €34 billion in civilian aid. These funds are directed toward a wide range of areas, including strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, implementing large-scale winter assistance programs, restoring the energy system, supporting the civilian population, providing humanitarian aid, conducting demining operations, and supplying essential equipment to civilian security forces.
The Foreign Ministry underlined that support is being provided through deliveries from Bundeswehr stocks as well as industrial supplies of weapons and equipment.
This announcement comes as five European NATO members have agreed to establish a new financing mechanism to cover payments for Ukraine’s weapons purchases in the United States.
Germany and the Netherlands have each pledged €500 million, while Sweden, Norway, and Denmark will contribute the remaining funds.
According to estimates by the German Institute for World Economics in Kiel (IfW Kiel), by mid-2025, Europe had overtaken the United States in terms of total military aid provided to Ukraine.
European spending reached €35.1 billion, which exceeded US contributions by €4.4 billion.
