Ukraine, Canada sign energy cooperation memorandum at IEA meeting
The energy ministers of Ukraine and Canada have signed a memorandum aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation in the energy sector.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal and Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Shmyhal stated that the document creates new opportunities for collaboration in nuclear and renewable energy, as well as in the oil and gas sector, infrastructure restoration and protection, energy efficiency, and innovation.
“This is a long-term instrument for attracting Canadian technologies, investments, expertise, and for implementing joint projects,” the Ukrainian energy minister said.
During their talks, Shmyhal and Hodgson also discussed an initiative aimed at strengthening the protection and resilience of Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure through the deployment of reinforced protective structures, shelters for personnel, and active defence systems.
According to Shmyhal, implementation of the initiative will enhance Ukraine’s energy security while simultaneously creating opportunities for the Canadian industry and investment.
