Trump boasts “very good” relations with Putin
US President Donald Trump asserted that he maintains a “very good” relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin during remarks at the inaugural session of the US-initiated Board of Peace in Washington.
Trump acknowledged underestimating the complexity of resolving the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. “I thought it would be easy because I have a very good relationship with President Putin,” he said.
The US president also commended the efforts of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in mediating the Ukraine situation. He recounted the extensive duration of his first meeting with Putin, which lasted about four hours.
"He goes to see Putin. He didn’t know Putin — I set up a meeting.
I said, “How is Steve doing?” “He is still inside.” “Oh, that was an hour.”
I called back. “Tell Steve to call me when he is finished. I want to know what the hell is going on.”
Three hours, four hours — their meeting lasted four hours. That is talent,” Trump noted.
