Sweden approves new €1.2-billion military aid package for Ukraine
The Swedish government has approved a new military aid package for Ukraine worth 12.9 billion kronor (€1.2 billion), Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson announced on February 19.
The assistance will focus on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence capabilities, Caliber.Az reports via Swedish media.
Around €400 million of the package will fund the purchase and delivery of Tridon Mk2 air defence systems—Swedish missile complexes effective against drones. Sweden will also supply sensors, robots, and anti-aircraft guns.
An additional €524 million is earmarked to support Ukrainian production of long-range missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The remaining funds, more than €280 million, will be used to provide grenade launchers, artillery shells, spare parts, and training for Ukrainian forces.
Since Russia launched its full‑scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sweden has steadily increased its support, initially supplying personal protective gear.
Over time, it has delivered advanced systems, including combat vehicles, air‑defence, and artillery, through multiple aid packages totalling tens of billions of Swedish kronor
Sweden has also set a multi‑year framework for 2024–2026, pledging further military aid and coordinating contributions via multilateral initiatives like the Ukraine Defence Contact Group to provide weapons and equipment that Ukraine has specifically requested.
In addition to arms, Sweden’s support extends to humanitarian, economic, and civilian assistance worth billions, complementing EU sanctions and reconstruction efforts.
