Canada to join PURL initiative, bolstering Ukraine’s defence capabilities
Canada will contribute to the PURL initiative, a program aimed at helping Ukraine acquire US weapons and technology, Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal announced.
The pledge came during a meeting with Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Natalka Cmoc, where both sides discussed further cooperation in strengthening Ukraine’s military, Caliber.Az reports via Shmyhal's post on Telegram.
Shmyhal expressed gratitude for Canada’s steadfast support and vital assistance from the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression. Talks focused on developing collaboration in the defence industry, including Canada’s participation in the “Danish model,” a highly effective mechanism supporting Ukraine.
The discussions also covered support for the production of Ukrainian long-range drones, which have already proven highly effective on the battlefield. Shmyhal presented Canada with the Defence City mechanism, a special legal framework designed to develop Ukraine’s defence ecosystem.
“Together with Canada, we are strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and building the foundation for a lasting and sustainable peace,” Shmyhal wrote.
