NGO kicks off photography project depicting Karabakh, Eastern Zangazur's cultural heritage
An Azerbaijani public society called "Gilavar Photo Club" is implementing a new photography project dedicated to the cultural heritage and historical monuments of the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur regions.
The main goal of the project is to establish a unified platform that provides media material and information on the cultural heritage and historical monuments of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, Caliber.Az reports citing AZERTAG.
The project also hopes to introduce the international community to this region which plays a central role in Azerbaijan's cultural and history.
Project leader Dilaver Najafov recalls that countless Azerbaijani cultural monuments were deliberately destroyed and vandalized in the course of the illegal occupation by armed separatist forces of Armenian ethnicity, noting that 47 monuments have been completely erased from the landscape.
He emphasized that after the liberation of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, 705 historical and cultural monuments were recorded in a state registry. As part of the project, there are plans to visit the liberated territories, where professional photographers will capture images of the monuments.
The Gilavar Photo Club, which has captured multiple important moments in Azerbaijan's modern history on film, will present progress on the project on their official website. A photo exhibition will be hosted upon the project's completion.
The article notes that the project is being implemented with financial support from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture. The photo society was the recipient of a grant following their win during a competition by the ministry in 2024 as part of a program to promote cultural and creative industries for non-governmental organizations.
