Azerbaijan’s Lachin city will officially kick off its tenure as the "Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) 2025" with a grand opening ceremony.
The event, organised by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Presidential Special Representative Office in Lachin district, is expected to draw attention from across the region, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the Ministry of Culture, dignitaries, cultural ensembles, and journalists from both Azerbaijan and other CIS member states arrived in Lachin on June 2 to take part in the momentous occasion. The city’s selection as the cultural capital marks a significant milestone for the region. According to the decision, made by the CIS Humanitarian Cooperation Council on October 8, 2024, Lachin was declared the cultural heart of the Commonwealth for 2025.
