Azerbaijan showcases cultural heritage at UN conference in Turkmenistan PHOTO
Azerbaijan celebrated its National Day on August 6 as part of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, with a vibrant cultural program in Awaza, Turkmenistan, that highlighted the country’s rich artistic and culinary traditions.
Organised by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture, the event aimed to introduce an international audience to the country’s cultural and spiritual heritage through a diverse exhibition and live performances, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.
A central feature of the celebration was the exhibition “Pearls of Azerbaijan’s National Heritage,” which attracted significant interest from conference attendees. The display showcased Azerbaijan’s renowned carpet-weaving traditions, regional carpet schools, traditional clothing, kelaghayi (silk headscarves), shabaka (stained glass artwork), and intricately crafted embroidery.
Visitors had the opportunity to participate in interactive masterclasses on carpet weaving, kelaghayi decoration, jewelry making, and stained glass art. Live Azerbaijani music and traditional dances were performed throughout the day, creating a festive atmosphere at the venue.
A culinary section offering samples of Azerbaijan’s national cuisine was another major draw, giving guests a taste of the country’s gastronomic diversity.
The day concluded with a grand evening concert featuring some of Azerbaijan’s most celebrated performers. Among them were People’s Artists Alim Gasimov and Gulyanag Mammadova; Honored Artists Fargana Gasimova, Ramil Gasimov, Nargiz Karimova, and Sahib Pashazade; as well as Ashig artists Samira and Ali, the Natig Rhythm Group, and the Azerbaijan State Dance Ensemble.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until August 8.
