Azerbaijan dazzles at UN conference with culture, cuisine and craftsmanship PHOTO
As part of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which is taking place from August 5 to 8 in Turkmenistan's Avaza National Tourist Zone, Azerbaijan is holding a series of cultural events under the banner of "Azerbaijan Days."
The initiative is designed to present Azerbaijan’s cultural richness, historical legacy, and national traditions to a global audience attending the UN conference, Azerbaijan's Culture Ministry told Caliber.Az.
The Azerbaijani pavilion features a wide array of cultural exhibits, including books, carpets, kilims, and handicrafts, all reflecting the country's centuries-old artisanal and craft heritage. Visitors are introduced to traditional Azerbaijani craftsmanship through these diverse displays.
An open-air exhibition titled “Pearls of Azerbaijan's National Heritage” highlights the country's artistic legacy. Among the showcased items are carpets from the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, intricate intarsia pieces, and traditional jewellery.
The exhibition also includes live master classes, where visitors can observe the making of carpets, the art of shebeke (stained glass mosaic), jewellery creation, and the crafting of kalaghai (traditional silk headscarves).
A culinary section complements the exhibition, offering a taste of Azerbaijan’s national cuisine. Guests have the opportunity to sample traditional dishes and a variety of Azerbaijani sweets.
A series of concerts is also part of the cultural program. A gala concert took place on August 5 during the conference's official opening. A major concert event dedicated to Azerbaijan's National Day is scheduled for August 6. The program will conclude with a final gala concert on August 8, featuring performances by Azerbaijani artists.
