Georgia’s Marneuli unveils restored bust of Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi PHOTO

A restored bust of great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi has been unveiled in Marneuli, Georgia, a city home to a large ethnic Azerbaijani community.

The restoration was carried out with the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia and at the initiative of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Georgia, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia Faig Guliyev, Chairman of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Georgia Huseyn Yusubov, Azerbaijani Embassy Education Adviser Fuad Chiragov, as well as representatives of the public, students and local residents.

It was noted that the bust had been damaged some time ago and was in need of restoration. Following the work, the monument was returned to its original appearance.

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Georgia Faig Guliyev thanked everyone involved in the restoration, as well as the city authorities. He stressed the importance of supporting initiatives aimed at preserving the history, culture and art of the Azerbaijani people in Georgia.

The bust of Nizami Ganjavi was installed in Marneuli in 2012 and underwent restoration 14 years later. The restoration work was carried out by artist and sculptor Gasham Suleymanov.

The event continued at the Azerbaijan House in Marneuli, where participants discussed Nizami Ganjavi's literary legacy and the role of his works in strengthening cultural and literary ties between the Azerbaijani and Georgian peoples.
