North Macedonia’s president extends condolences to Azerbaijani counterpart over Aktau plane crash

North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova has extended her heartfelt condolences to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan following the tragic plane crash near Aktau, Kazakhstan, which resulted in the loss of multiple lives.

In an official letter addressed to President Aliyev, President Siljanovska Davkova expressed her profound sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as a deeply saddening event, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.

"It is with deep sadness that I received the news of the plane crash near Aktau, Republic of Kazakhstan, and I sincerely regret the loss of lives in this huge tragedy," her letter stated.

On behalf of the citizens of North Macedonia and in her personal capacity, she conveyed her deepest condolences to the Azerbaijani people and the bereaved families of the victims.

"In these mournful moments for you, for the friendly Azerbaijani people, and for the families of the victims, allow me, on behalf of the citizens of my country and on my personal behalf, to express my deepest condolences," the letter read.

President Siljanovska Davkova also requested that President Aliyev extend her sympathies to the families of the victims and her wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the accident.

On December 25, 2024, an Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL) passenger flight travelling from Baku to Grozny crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan. Of the 67 people on board, 38 lost their lives, while 29 survived. Preliminary investigations point to the possibility of external physical and technical interference as factors contributing to the crash.
