Northern Italy airports face jet fuel shortage after tanker delay
Four airports in northern Italy are operating under heightened alert due to temporary jet fuel shortages, following delays in the arrival of a fuel tanker, local media reported on Tuesday, July 14.
Bologna’s Marconi Airport, Milan Linate, Venice’s Marco Polo Airport and Treviso’s Antonio Canova Airport are facing increased pressure as aircraft operations are subject to strict fuel rationing. The disruption stems from a delayed fuel shipment to Air BP Italia, a key aviation fuel supplier in the region, according to Corriere della Sera.
Citing sources familiar with the situation, the newspaper reported that, unlike a similar incident earlier this year, authorities are handling the rationing measures internally and have not issued official NOTAMs (Notice to Air Missions).
The current situation echoes a supply disruption in April 2026, when a delayed tanker forced the imposition of strict fuel quotas. Bologna was particularly affected at the time, with aircraft subject to a tight 2,000-litre fuel cap.
No immediate indications were given as to when normal fuel supplies would be restored, and airport operations continue under constrained conditions.
