Parliamentary committee backs Svyrydenko’s resignation as Ukraine’s PM
A committee of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) has supported the resignation request of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced.
“The Rada Committee on State Building supported the resignation statement of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Sixteen members voted in favour, while four abstained,” Zheleznyak wrote on his Telegram channel.
He said Svyrydenko arrived at the committee meeting at least 30 minutes late and indicated that her resignation was initiated at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“This was preceded by a conversation with Zelenskyy, who clearly expressed a desire to renew and reboot the government, as well as strengthen specific areas,” Zheleznyak quoted the prime minister as saying when asked about the reasons for her resignation.
According to the lawmaker, the Ukrainian parliament is expected to consider Svyrydenko’s resignation later on Tuesday, July 14.
Zelenskyy announced the planned government reshuffle on July 12. Svyrydenko, who has served as prime minister since July 17, 2025, submitted her resignation on Monday, July 13.
Zheleznyak noted said that Svyrydenko may ultimately decline a potential appointment as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States.
