Pentagon assesses likelihood of Chinese attack on Taiwan
The Pentagon has assessed the likelihood of a Chinese attack on Taiwan in the foreseeable future. This was stated by the official representative of the department, John Kirby, writes RIA Novosti.
According to him, the US sees no indication that China is going to take such a step. At the same time, Kirby noted that it is important for Washington to build up its military potential in such a way as to be ready to fully fulfill all of its obligations to Taiwan. He also stressed that the US will continue to support Taiwan in developing its own defense capabilities.
Earlier, it was reported that the Air Force of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA Air Force) sent 18 military aircraft to the identification zone of Taiwan's air defense (air defense). According to representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the island, Chinese aircraft flew over to the southwest and south of the island. The group of aircraft included six J-11 and J-16 fighters, two H-6 bombers, two KJ-500 early warning and control aircraft and a pair of Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft.
