Pentagon orders E-2 advanced Hawkeye radar aircraft for Japan, US
The US Department of Defence has finalized a significant contract with Northrop Grumman, securing the delivery of nine E-2 Advanced Hawkeye radar detection aircraft for a total of $1.45 billion.
Japan will receive five of these cutting-edge aircraft, while the remaining four are earmarked for deployment by the US Navy, Caliber.Az reports, referring to a contract published on the official website of the US Department of Defence.
Scheduled for delivery by 2029, the contract encompasses not only the manufacture of these crucial aircraft but also includes comprehensive provisions for ongoing maintenance services.
Production sites are planned across several key states including Indiana, California, New York, and Florida.
The E-2D Hawkeye stands as an advanced tactical radar detection platform renowned for its all-weather capabilities. Equipped with a rotating antenna capable of tracking multiple targets and an advanced identification system, this aircraft plays a pivotal role in coordinating effective strikes against air, land, and sea targets alike.
Initially introduced in 1964 and continuously upgraded, the E-2D Hawkeye represents a cornerstone of modern defence strategy, ensuring heightened situational awareness and operational efficiency for both Japan and the US Navy.
