Poland wants to increase ammunition production fivefold
Polish Armaments Group chief Sebastian Chwalek has said that Poland intends to increase the production of ammunition from 30,000-40,000 to more than 200,000 per year.
Following a visit by EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton, Polish production facilities were highly praised, the Polish news agency PAP quotes him as saying.
"Our capacity is 30,000-40,000 munitions a year. They are constantly growing, as we are investing in new production capacity today. Eventually, we want to increase this to more than 200,000 pieces per year," Chwalek explained.
He also added that Poland intends to restart the production of nitrocellulose, which is needed for the production of ammunition.
However, the authorities intend to consider environmental concerns, as such production requires large amounts of water, Chwalek added.
