Venezuela earthquake death toll reaches 6,125

The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 6,125, according to a weekly bulletin published on the Telegram channel of National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez.

The latest figures show that search-and-rescue teams have saved 6,462 people, while 60,992 injured residents have received medical treatment, Caliber.Az reports.

Authorities have also provided 287 homes to people left homeless by the disaster.

In addition, 43,679 buildings have been inspected, with 41,624 found to have sustained damage.

The powerful earthquake struck Venezuela on the evening of June 24.

Two major tremors, measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, occurred approximately 40 seconds apart, with epicentres located about 10 kilometres apart in Yaracuy state.

More than 1,500 aftershocks have been recorded since the initial quake.
