Portugal launches six satellites under New Space project
On March 30, Portugal launched six satellites into orbit as part of the New Space Portugal Agenda, strengthening the country’s position within the European space ecosystem, according to Xinhua.
Two of the satellites will enhance the national Earth observation system, Constelação do Atlântico, while the other four will join the recently created Constelação Lusiada to support maritime navigation communications.
On the same day, a cooperation agreement was signed between Satellogic, N3O, and Geosat, creating a platform for joint development of new satellite technologies and services, including the Atlantic Data Hub.
Additionally, in partnership with CEiiA, N3O, and the German company OHB, two very high-resolution optical satellites are being developed.
The New Space Portugal Agenda outlines the strategic development of the country’s space infrastructure under the leadership of the Portuguese Air Force. A space base is planned on the Azores archipelago to support satellite launches and returns, positioning Portugal as a key Atlantic hub within the European space network.
